No-Oven Stovetop Bread

No-Oven Stovetop Bread
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 egg
Suggested Stovetop Method
1. Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
2. Add wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, beat the egg with the milk and melted butter. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined — do not overmix.
3. Prepare the pan: Heat a heavy-bottomed skillet or nonstick pan over low to medium-low heat. Lightly grease the pan with a little butter or oil.
4. Cook the bread: Spoon the batter into the pan and spread into a round or small loaf shape about 1–1.5 inches thick. Cover the pan with a lid and cook gently for about 12–20 minutes, checking occasionally. The bread is done when the top is set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
5. Finish: If you like a lightly crisp bottom, remove the lid for the last 1–2 minutes and increase heat just slightly — watch carefully to avoid burning. Let cool a few minutes before slicing.
Tip: This recipe is flexible — add herbs, grated cheese, or a touch of honey for variation.
