Ingredients
Bread Pudding
4 cups day-old bread, cubed
2 cups milk
2 large eggs
¾ cup sugar
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup raisins (optional)
Vanilla Sauce
½ cup heavy cream (or milk)
¼ cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thicker sauce)
Instructions
Prepare the Bread Pudding
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish. Spread the bread cubes evenly in the dish and sprinkle with raisins if using.
Make the Custard
In a bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Pour evenly over the bread. Gently press the bread down so it absorbs the mixture.
Bake
Let sit for 10 minutes, then bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is set.
Prepare the Vanilla Sauce
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine cream, brown sugar, and butter. Stir until butter melts and sugar dissolves. Simmer gently for 3–5 minutes. Stir in vanilla. For a thicker sauce, whisk in cornstarch and cook 1 minute more.
Serve
Spoon warm vanilla sauce generously over the bread pudding.
Enjoy
Serve warm and savor every comforting bite. This old-fashioned bread pudding is best enjoyed slowly—preferably with good company and a second helping. 🍮✨
